- Natural disasters (e.g. earthquake) can damage property and farmland. - Desertification can make land unproductive (farming limited). - Mechanisation of agricultural equipment (farms require fewer workers = fewer jobs). - Conflict or war.

- E.g. Mumbai, India. - A megacity is an urban area with over 10million people living there. - Now 34 megacities. - More than 2/3 of megacities are in NEEs and LICs. - More megacities are expected to emerge in Asia and Africa by 2030.
