Factors affecting isolation and heating of the atmosphere (ext)

?
How does the altitude of the land affect insolation?
The higher the land the further it is away from the heat source added to by air density decreasing (air particles further apart so heat transfer cannot happen)
1 of 5
How does the altitude of the sun affect insolation?
Higher altitude means heat energy passes through more atmosphere which means increased energy loss
2 of 5
How do land and sea affect insolation?
Land heats up more quickly than the sea, which requires more energy but seas retain temps for longer (coastal regions have smaller temp ranges)
3 of 5
How do prevailing winds affect insolation?
Temperature of airmasses blowing from the sea are typically cooler in summer and warmer in winter than winds that have traveled over land
4 of 5
How do ocean currents affect insolation?
Warmer ocean currents migrate polewards and are replaced by cooler currents heading towards the equator (these motions warm or cool coastal areas)
