Fabric Finish
A fabric finish is something that is added to the surface of a fibre, fabric or product to change it in some way to make it more suited for its intended use

Brushing
Makes the fabrics feel light, fluffy and warm (cotton, wool, polyester and polyamide) DRY

Calendering and Embossing
Fabrics are passed between heat rollers to smooth it (cotton and wool). Embossing has rollers engraved with patterns (synthetic fibres) DRY

Shrink Resistance
Prevents fabrics shrinking (all fabrics except wool which uses a wet finish) DRY

Mercerizing
Makes cotton shiny, absorbent and stronger WET

Stain Resistance
It puts a protective barrier on fabric to stop staining (clothing and furnishing) WET

Water Resistance
It has a protective barrier to keep out water (clothing and furnishing) WET

Flame Proofing
Makes cotton burn slower WET

Anti-Bacterial
Inhibits the growth of microbes, odours, infections, dust mites etc. (bedding, towels, socks, clothes and others) WET

Easy Care
It reduces shrinking and creasing so fabric needs less ironing (men's shirts) WET

Micro-encapsulation
Chemicals are released onto the skin of the wearer (bedding, towels, socks and clothes) WET

It gives the fabric more sheen - added before the dye (cotton and viscose) BIOLOGICAL
