How can DNA be extracted from a fruit?
1) mash a few strawberries and put in beaker containing solution of detergent and salt- mix well. DETERGENT will break down cell membranes to relase DNA. SALT will make DNA stick together.

2)filter mixture to get froth and big, insoluble bits of cell out 3)gently add some iced cold alcohol to filtered mixture

4)DNA will start to come out of solution as it's not soluble in cold alcohol. Will appear as stringy white precipitate (solid) and can be carefully fished out with glass rod

What is DNA?
a polymer made up of two strands coiled to form a double helix. starands linked by a series of complimetary base pairs joined together by weak hydrogen bonds. 4 BASE PAIRS- Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine. A and T. C and G.

there are 23 matched pairs of chrmosomes in every human body cell. 23rd pair is ** and XY. mALES HAVE xy. Females have **. equal chance of boy or girl. All eggs have X chromosome but sperm can have X or Y. Sex determined by sperms chromosome
