What is the name of the drug which affects the nervous system?
Psychoactive drugs
1 of 5
3 affects of these drugs...
Consciousness, cognition, alterations in perceptions
2 of 5
How does an excitatory drug affect the nervous system?
Increases the metabolic rate of the presynaptic neurones
3 of 5
How does an inhibitory drug affect the nervous system?
Binds directly to neurotransmitter receptors on post synaptic membrane, blocks neurotransmitters from binding so sodium ion channels do not open and postsynaptic neurone is not depolarised
4 of 5
How does an organophosphorus insecticide affect the nervous system?
Blocks enzyme that breaks down neurotransmitters in synaptic cleft. It prolongs effect of neurotransmitters. Repeated firing of post synaptic neurone. Repeated muscle spasms
