Exam Revision

?
If God is timeless (eternal), what is His omniscience like?
If God is timeless then his omniscience is that he has no past, present or future but He knows what point on the road that our lives lie, so He can see our future in great detail.
1 of 6
Explain the problem for free will if God has eternal omniscience.
If God knows everthing concerning our future how can our decisions be our own and be free? Predestination agrees with God's omniscience as it states that our lives are determined by Him rather than our own free will.
2 of 6
Refer to the solution to this problem given by Boethius.
The solution is that God knows everything and therefore knows the future of human beings, meaning that we are not free. God's foreknowledge is not causal- what he sees in the future is the results of our freedom.
3 of 6
Outline the concept of everlasting omniscience.
Everlasting omniscience means that for God the past is the past and the future is the future and he is in time. Hence, he knows the past and present completely.
4 of 6
Explain the difficulties for an everlasting God to know the future.
God can know today that the sun will rise tomorrow but so can humans. It all depends on the present situation of the universe. If human actions are caused by genetics and upbringing then God can predict that too. Thus freedom is affected.
5 of 6
Explain a solution to this problem.
Genuine freedom: Freedom no determined by genetic makeup, upbringing and background. Although this is restricted, we have the freedom to make moral choices unlike God. Thus, God cannot know of this freedom or the future actions of humans
