What is the biodiversity crisis?
Humans are causing extinctions at a tremendous rate, 100x faster than expected without human activity, and parallels or exceeds previous mass extinction events.
1 of 12
What caused the biodiversity crisis?
Habitat destruction, introduced species, over exploitation of fish, deforestation, pollution and drainage of wetlands.
2 of 12
How did the finches reach the Galapagos and how did they survive?
Prevailing winds. Able to flourish as food was plentiful. Competition within populations and random mutations in species created greater advantage, and so induced natural selection.
3 of 12
3 features of kingdom Prokaryote
Unicellular, peptidoglican cell wall, no internal cell membranes.
4 of 12
3 features of kingdom Procotista
Eukaryotic, membrane bound organelles, many single celled organisms.
5 of 12
3 features of kingdom Plantae
Eukaryotic, multicellular, cellulose cell wall.
6 of 12
3 features of kingdom Fungi
Eukaryotic, heterotrophic feeding, rigid chitin cell wall.

3 features of kingdom Anamalia
Eukaryotic, multicellular, no cell wall.
8 of 12
Features of phyla Annelid
Segmented body, fluid filled body, primitive brain.
9 of 12
Features of phyla Athropods
Segmented body, developed brain, chitin exoskeleton, open circulatory system, paired jointed legs.
10 of 12
Jointed legs
Allows the organism to run, jump etc. so it can get away and survive to pass on genes.
11 of 12
Features of class insect
Head has antennae, compound eyes, 3 pairs of legs, evolution of two wings, largest class.
