A person dies as a result of their own voluntary action

Assisted suicide

A person dies as a result of their own action with the assistance of another person. This is different from voluntary euthanasia only partially because the person's condition doesn't have to be life threatening

Physician Aided Suicide

When a person dies as a result of their own voluntary action but with the help of a physician

Physician Aided Dying

When a person's death is hastened (quickened) but not directly caused by the aid (medicine) of a doctor/physician

Voluntary Euthanasia

When a person's death is directly cause by another person (perhaps a doctor) at their request and with their consent. Most arguments today assume that the person requesting to die is suffering from a terminal illness and is in great pain

Non voluntary Euthanasia

When a person's life is ended without their consent but with the consent of someone representing their interests

Passive Euthanasia

When a doctor withdraws life sustaining treatment which indirectly causes death - "letting nature take its course"

Active Euthanasia

When a person (perhaps a doctor) acts deliberately to bring about the death of the person
