What is suffering?

Because we all suffer from it (ie. floods illness loss)

if god is all good and wants the best for people, why does god allow suffering, that is clearly not good? are god's intentions bad? what is his purpos?

if god is benevolent, why does god allow us to sufer? surely if he cares for us and wants us to be happy, he would not want us to suffer pain and loss.

if god is omniscient, he must realise what we suffer. knowledge brings responsibility with it. how can he stand by and do nothing to stop our suffering?

if god is omnipotent and can do anything, god could prevent suffering or stop it altogether. yet suffering contines. theists believe that god created the world.if this is so, why did he create a world that contains so much death and suffering?

Suffering caused by nature, e.g. because of earthquakes, volcanoes,floods

Suffering caused bu the actions of humans, e.g. through war, pollution, crime.

Does suffering have a purpose?
some people argue that suffering is not always bad. it sometimes has positive benifits

some suffering is neccessary to keep us alive. pain tells us that something is wrong

suffering can make us appreciate things that we take for granted. temorary blindness, for examples can make some appreciate the value of sight

the idea that evil is power outside of people that draws them to evil.
