Estimating population size

?
What is a quadrat?
A quadrat is a square enclosing a known area that you can square up to estimate population.
1 of 5
How can you use a quadrat to find population?
Find a quadrat of 1m2 and count all the organisms within that quadrat. Then times whatever number of organisms by the area in m2 you want to estimate.
2 of 5
How do you estimate population with the capture recapture data?
First you capture a sample of the population then mark them (non-harmfully) and then let them go. Recapture another sample and count how many are marked and use this equation: (number in first sample X number in second sample) / number in second smpl
3 of 5
What assumptions can you make about the capture recapture method?
That there is change in population- emigration, immigration or death. The marking hasn't effected survival. The sampling was the exact same each time.
4 of 5
How could a mark from capture recapture effect the survival of the organisms?
It could make them more visible to predators.
