Enzymes

?
what are enzymes?
enzymes are biological catalysts that are proteins that are produced by a living organism.
1 of 11
what are catalysts?
a substance that speed up a reaction without being used up
2 of 11
name 3 enzyme-catalyzed that happen inside an organism
DNA replication, protein synthesis and digestion
3 of 11
what affects the enzymes rate of reaction?
temperature, PH and substrate concentration
4 of 11
what is a substrate ?
the molecule changed in the reaction
5 of 11
what is a active site?
the part of an enzyme that joins onto a substrate
6 of 11
why are enzymes highly specific of their substrate ?
it is because the substrate has to fit into the active site. if it dosn't then the reaction wont catalyze
7 of 11
what is the lock and key mehtod for enzymes to work?
this is where the substrate (the lock) has a certain key for it to unlock (the enzyme) this has a certain shape where it has to fit and if it dosnt the substrate will not unlock.
8 of 11
what happens when the PH is to low or high in a enzyme?
the enzyme becomes denatured and wont fit into the right substrate.
9 of 11
True or false- the higher the substrate concentration the faster the reaction
true- as it will go faster and will more likly meet up with the enzyme.
10 of 11
what is the optimum temperature of the enymes in humans? and what happens if it goes above or below that temperature?
37 degrees, if it goes below or above this the enzyme can become denatured.
