Enzymes 2

?
What does reversible inhibitor mean?
The effect of this inhibitor can be overcome with changes of [S] as teh inhibitor does not permanently alter/denature enzyme by staying attached, a non-covalent bond is formed.
1 of 5
What does irreversible inhibitor mean?
Causes a change in active so so the enzyme can no longer form the correct bonds with the substrate.
2 of 5
What effect does a competitive inhibitor have on Vmax and Km?
alter apparent km not Vmax, as Vmax can be reached but just at a higher [S] to overcome inhibitor.
3 of 5
What effect does a non-competitive inhibitor have on Vmax and km?
Km is the same but V,ax is reduced because substrate conc can't overcome the inhibitor.
4 of 5
What is a homotropic allosteric enzyme?
when substrate is the effector but binds somewhere else as well as the active site to produce or inhibit activity.
