what are enzymes?
enzymes are biological catalysts.
1 of 10
what do enzymes do?
enzymes controll the metabolism that is the sum of all the reactions in a cell or in the body.
2 of 10
what are catalysts?
catalysts are specific reactions in living organisms due to the shape of their active site.
3 of 10
what is a catalyst used for?
a catalyst is used for speeding up reactions.
4 of 10
what is protease?
protease is the breakdown of proteins into amino acids that is catalysed by protease enzymes.
5 of 10
where is protease produced?
protease is produced by your stomach, pancreas and small intestine but the breakdown of proteins into amino acids takes place in your stomach and small intestine.
6 of 10
what is carbohydrase?
carbohydrase brake down carbohydrates into simple sugars in your mouth and small intestine.
7 of 10
what is lipase?
lipse (fats and oils) you eat are broken down into fatty acids and glycerol in the small intestine.the reaction is catalysed by lipas enzymes.
8 of 10
where is lipase produced?
lipase is produced in the pancreus and small intestine.
9 of 10
what enviroment do enzymes work best in?
enzymes work best in an alkiline enviroment because acids can damage the enzymes causeing them to denature
