Anthropocentricism
We need a new ethics because other ethics are anthropocentric. They may be unable to explain obligations we might have to a non-human environment.

Bio and eco-centricism
Place life (bio) or environmental (eco) at the centre. Humans are not central, other things have importance too.

What kind of things are morally important?
Depends on the person + their ethical view. All sentient animals; plants; whole species; ecosystems; the planet itself.

Intrinsic and instrumental value
Typically humans see nature as instrumental. But many environmentalists see as nature as intrinsic. Other philosophers; intrinsic useless, anthropocentric gives us reason too.

Applying theories: Plato
The world is an illusion, only humans can seek to escape it. The natural world only has instrumental value - reminds us of the forms.
