Enthalpy Change
Enthalpy - Measure of the energy stored in a system (cannot be measured directly).
Enthalpy Change - Energy Change from start to finish.
1 of 6
Standard Conditions
100kPa, 298K, 25C.
2 of 6
Standard Enthalpy of Formation
ΔHf⦵ - Enthalpy change when 1 mole of a substance formed from its elements in standard conditions and substances in standard states.
e.g. H2(g) + 1/2O2(g) -> H20(l)
3 of 6
Standard Enthalpy of Combustion
ΔHc⦵ - Enthalpy change when 1 mole of a substance undergoes complete combustion with excess oxygen in standard conditions and substances in standard states.
e.g. CH4(g) + O2(g excess) -> CO2(g) + 2H20(l)

Standard Enthalpy of Neutralisation
ΔHn⦵ - Enthalpy change when 1 mole of water is produced by the reaction of an acid and a base in standard conditions and substances in standard states.
e.g. HCl(aq) + NaOH(aq) -> NaCl(s) + H20(l)
5 of 6
Standard Enthalpy of Atomisation
ΔHa⦵ - Enthalpy change when 1 mole of gaseous atoms of a substance are formed from the substance in standard conditions and substances in standard states.
e.g. 1/2H2(g) -> H(g)
