What is a verb?

What is an adjective?
An adjective is a descriptive word that describes a noun (pretty, happy, silly, sunny)

What is a noun?
A noun is a name of a person, place or thing.

What is personification?
Personification is when you give something human characteristics.

What is a conjunction?
A word which connects other groups of words together, i.e. and, but, because.

What is a sentence?
A sentence is a set of words built around a main verb, starting with a capital letter and ending with a full stop or equivalent punctuation mark.

Recount, report, Instruction, explanation, persuasion and discussion.

What are the three sentence types?
Simple, compound and complex

What is a compound sentence?
A compound sentence is built from two or more simple sentences, joined by a conjunction such as ‘and’ or ‘but’.

What is a simple sentence?
A simple sentence is built from the minimum of a subject and a main verb. It can be very short in length but doesn't have to be.

A complex sentence is built from a simple sentence which is added to a second group of words that are also built around a main verb
