Wilfred Owen was born on March 18th 1893 in Owestry, Shropshire. He was the eldest of four children, He had two brothers, Harold and Colin, and a sister Mary.

After School he became a teaching assistant and in 1913 went to France for two years to work as a Language tutor.

He Began writing poetry as a teenager. In 1915, He returned to England to enlist in the army.

After experiencing heavy fighting, he was diagnosed with shell shock. The term shell shock is meant to describe the reaction of Soldiers in WW1 to the Trauma of the battle.

Evacuated to England and arrived at Craig Lockhart War Hospital near Edinbrough in June.

There he met the Poet Siegfried Sassoon, who already have a reputation as a poet and shared Owen views.

Seigfried Sassoon, who provided him with guidance and encouragement to bring his war experiences in to his poetry. When Owen returned to the Western Front, After more than a year away, He took part in the Breaking of the Hindenburg Line.

Awarded the Military cross in recognition of his courage and leadership. He was killed on 4 November 1918 during the battle to cross the Sambre Oise canal at Ors.

All the Poems for which he is now remembered were written in a creative burst between August 1917 and September 1918.

Some of His Poems ; Anthem for doomed youth, 'The Dead Beat', and Dulce et Decorum Est.

Wilfred Own is buried between two privates in the corner of a village cemetry at Ors. His grave is marked with a simple cross and gravestone.

His Life and relationship with Seigfried Sassoon is the subject of Pat Barker's 1991 historical novel Regeneration.

Owen is regarded by historians as the leading poet of the First World War, known for his poetry on the horrors of trench and gas warfare.

Wilfred Owen has become known for his angry poetry on the supposed nobility and glory of war. But while he was compassionate to those around him, he was not self pitying and earned himself the Military Cross for his bravery.
