What is BMR?
Basal metabolic rate, energy expenditure in post absorptive state measured under standardised conditios of thermal neutrality awake but at rest.
1 of 9
What is RMR?
Resting metabolic rate is the energy expenditure at rest nots under strict conditions.
2 of 9
What is PAR?
Physical activity ratio is the cost of physical activity as a ratio of BMR
3 of 9
What is PAL?
Physical activity level is the sum of PAR*time, expressed as a ratio of BMR. Desirable is 1.7 however average is 1.4
4 of 9
What is DIT?
Diet induced thermogenesis is the increased energy expenditure after a meal which may be 10-15% energy yield of teh meal.
5 of 9
What is TEE?
Total energy expenditure= (PAL*BMR)+DIT
6 of 9
What is direct calorimetry?
Measurement of heat output.
7 of 9
What is indirect calorimetry?
Measurement of oxygen consumption using dual isotonically labeled water.
8 of 9
What values does BMR vary between?
5.07MJday-1 to 8.67MJday-1
