Infrared Radiation
Transfer of thermal energy by electromagnetic waves
1 of 8
Conduction
The transfer of heat energy without the substance itself moving
2 of 8
Convection
The transfer of heat energy through movement. This occurs in liquids and gases and creates a convection current
3 of 8
Condensation
When a warm gas comes in contact with a cold surface which forms a liquid, energy is released and can make the temperature increase
4 of 8
Evaporation
A liquid evaporates when its particles have gained enough energy to escape the surface of the liquid and become a gas
5 of 8
U-Value
U-Value of a material indicates how effective a material is as an insulator because it shows how quickly heat energy can pass through. A low U-Value means that heat flows slowly
6 of 8
Specific heat capacity
The specific heat capacity of a substance is the amount of energy needed to change the temperature of one kilogram of it by one degree Celsius. Eg. Energy transferred(J)=Mass(kg)* Specific heat capacity (J/kg°C)* Temperature change (°C)
7 of 8
Payback Time
Payback Time(Years)= Total cost of improvement/savings per year
