What are the three different fossil fuels?
Coal, Oil, Natural Gas
1 of 13
Why do fossil fuels causes problems?
Hydrocarbons (The plant and animal remains that form fossil fuels are chemicals called hydrocarbons. The carbon was taken by photosynthesis and so when the fuel is used the carbon combines with oxygen and produces heat and co2.

What is the UK's energy mix?
The UK used to be self-reliant for energy with oil, coal and gas. The UK is still the largest producer of oil and natural gas. The UK still uses these fossil fuels but the amount being used is decreasing due to renewables.
3 of 13
Where does most oil come from?
Middle East and less important is Russia and the Soviet Union.
4 of 13
What is a benefit of using gas instead of coal?
Less atmospheric pollutants.
5 of 13
What are the reasons for the decline of coal mining in the UK?
easy accessible coal had been mined, remaining deposits were too deep, coal further down contained sulfur and when burned produced sulfur dioxide.

What was the conflict in Russia and Ukraine about?
Ukraine originally received gas for a very low price however when Russia needed more money, Gazprom increased the price of their oil and Ukraine refused to pay. As a result supplies to Ukraine and Europe were affected.

What does Shell (a TNC) do?
Make oil products (e.g. petrol), create chemicals, use new ideas, exploit oil)
8 of 13
What are effects of TNCs?
1.Rumuekpe can't fish as river's are polluted. 2. Highly flammable (10,000 barrels leaked which can flame due to sun heat), 3. Global Warming (gas is produced), pipes burn.
9 of 13
What are the causes of impacts from TNC's?
Pipes bursting, oil being illegely tapped, ageing network of 6000km of pipes.
10 of 13
What is the fuelwood crisis?
Fuelwood is used as 90% of Burkino Faso's energy but energy is being used faster than it is being produced and so is probably going to run out soon. 110,550 hectares of forest is taken per year.

How does the hydro turbine in Nepal work?
Water from the Himalayas is diverted to create energy by water turning turbines . Pos (2600 people are needed so it creates jobs, cheaper, sustainable, enough power to light every house and some to cook) (Neg: the amount of water has to be restrited)
12 of 13
What is Curitiba's transport system?
Curitiba built arterial roads to direct traffic out of the city center. Buses are used along major routes that can hold up to 270 people. Buses have their own lanes to be faster.
