Energy Econ

?
What is energy?
Energy is the ability to do work as it transforms from one form to another, or the ability to produce heat.
1 of 17
What is energy quality?
The proportion of useful energy left after transformation.
2 of 17
How is energy efficiency calculated?
Useful energy output divided by total energy input.
3 of 17
What are the two types of energy?
Primary energy, which is extracted or captured from natural resources or flows. Secondary energy, which is produced using primary energy sources.
4 of 17
What source of energy could be classed as both primary and secondary?
Electricity; it can be a primary source if produced directly from wind farms or solar panels, or secondary if it is produced in power stations, usually from burning promary energy sources.
5 of 17
What is a renewable energy source?
A source of energy that is obtained from a constantly available flow of resources; using a unit of the stock does not leave fewer units available for future consumption.
6 of 17
What is the difference between commercial and non-commercial energy?
Commercial energy is any energy that is traded in an marketplace and which has a price; non-commercial energy never enters the market, for example locally-collected firewood.
7 of 17
Describe the role of the energy supply sector.
The energy suppply sector includes indiginous primary energy production, imports and exports and changes in the levels of stocks.
8 of 17
Describe the role of the energy conversion sector
The energy conversion sector includes transformation of primary energy sources into secondary energy sources and the transportation, transmission and distribution of energy.
9 of 17
Describe the role of the energy demand sector.
The energy demand sector is the consumption of energy sources to meet the demand for energy services such as lighting and heating.
10 of 17
Why are energy balances more useful than commodity accounts?
Energy balances show the relative importance of each commodity in addition to its import dependence and the interdependence between commodities.
11 of 17
How is primary supply calculated in an energy balance?
Primary supply is the sum of production, imports and exports, marine bunkers and stock changes.
12 of 17
How is primary demand calculated in an energy balance?
Prmiary demand is the sum of energy industry use, losses and total final consumption, less transfers and ransformations.
13 of 17
What is total final consumption in an energy balance?
Total final consumption is the summation of non-energy uses (such as oil for lubricants) and total final energy consumption, which is the total of all energy used by final customers.
14 of 17
What is the relationship between primary supply and primary demand?
Strictly speaking, these should be identical and are interchangable in problems. However there is often a statistical difference bwteen them, which is calculated as primary supply minus primary demand.
15 of 17
What is the energy supply system?
The chain of systems or activities required to ensure supply of energy
16 of 17
What is net calorific value?
Measurement on the basis of energy available for practical use
