Client consent in order to empower their patient's so that they can fully understand the options open to them

They can lose confidence because their can be a tendency for professionals to take over and for patient's 'to do as they're told'

Acknowledging their needs&preferences so that they're treated like 'actual individuals', providing information about their right to dignity&independence, which will boost their self-esteem

Translators, interpreters, signers, advocates, family and friends

Communicating, meaning from one language to another which is essential for those who do not speak English

What do signers do?
They play a key role in ensuring that people with hearing impairments can fully participate in meetings and communicate their preferences and care needs

What do advocates do?
They aim to gain trust of service users who have communication difficulties and find ways of communicating with them to represent their views to the carers

What do family and friends do?
They often play a key role in ensuring that the service users needs are understood and met

What are an individuals rights?
Equality, Dignity, Independence, Preferences, Feeling safe, Free from discrimination, being respected, Good quality of care
