Divide first value by second. e.g mass/length

Add up all the values and divide by the number in the sample.

What is the standard deviation of a sample?
The standard deviation shows the spread about the mean.

Why do you calculate the standard deviation?
the greater the standard deviation the greater the variation in results. Overlap of standard deviations indicates that the means may not be significantly different.
