England's trad. frienship with Spain based on cloth trade with the Nederlands begins to decline due to Philip governing the Nederlands as a province of Spain and bypassing its Council of State.

Calvinism continues to spread throughout Nederlands, heping to unite the Dutch people against Spanish rule.

1568 - English retaliation
Two weeks later, Cecil orders bullion to be unloaded from Spanish ships in English ports and the loan from the Genoavese bankers, on its way to Alva, is impounded and taken over by the Queen.

Alva retaliates by placing an embargo on all English property and trade in the Nederlands, effectively all trade between England and Spain stops.
