God, angels, monarch, nobility, gentry, peasants/commoners, animals and plants.

Role of the Privy Council?
Responsible for the everyday running of the county. Privy councillors acted as Elizabeths main advisors.

Role of Lord Lieutenants?
Appointed by the queen to take administrative responsibility for an area of the country. The role included settling disputes, collecting taxes and were responsible for raising a militia for the queen.

Role of the Justices of Peace? (JPs)
Each county had several JPs which were chosen from the local gentry. Main role was to ensure that new laws were properly enforced. JPs swore to treat everyone equally, rich or poor. Had the power to imprison.

Role of Parliament?
Made up of the House of Lords and House of Commons. Had influence over taxation and was responsible for passing new laws. The queen decided when to call parliament and how much of their advice she wanted to listen to.

What was Royal Court?
Royal Court consisted of government officials, ladies-in-waiting, servants and advisors that surrounded Elizabeth. Consisted of around 1000 people from nobles to servants. It was the centre of political power and also a source of trends.

William Cecil, Sir Francis Walsingham, Robert Cecil.

Who was William Cecil?
Served as Secretary of State and was a member of parliament. He was Elizabeth's most trusted advisor and often times would only listen to his advice. He played key roles in developing the new poor laws and new religious policy.

Who was Sir Francis Walsingham?
He was Secretary of State and he headed Elizabeth's spy network and was known as the 'spy master' who had 'eyes and ears everywhere'. He was played a vital role in the execution of MQS.
