What is an element?
A group of atoms which are all the same type. Elements are listed in the periodic table. All elements have a symbol (one or more letters). Atoms of elements can exist as single atoms or bonded (joined) with other atoms.

Helium (He) Oxygen (O2) Sulphur (S8)

What is a compound?
A group of atoms bonded (joined) together but the atoms are from different elements.

What are some examples of compounds?
Methane (CH4) Water (H20) Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

What is a mixture?
A group of atoms which are from elements or compounds, but are not bonded (joined) together.
