How did Hershel discover Infrared?
He used a prism to create a spectrum, measuring each colour and noticed it was hottest just past the red part.

Who discovered Ultraviolet and when?
Ritter in 1801 (one year after Herchel)

How did Ritter discover Ultraviolet?
He noticed silver chloride turned white to black when exposed to light so measured how quickly it would change on each colour of the spectrum. It changed the quickest when put just after violet, creating ultraviolet.

Do EM waves travel at different speeds?
NO! They travel at the same speed, in a vacuum.

Radio therapy, sterilisation of food and surgical instruments.

What does ionising radiation do?
Transfer energy and destroy dead cells.

Why are ionising radiations dangerous?
If it collides with healthy cells then it will damage or destroy them, causing cancer.
