1945 Education Act
Children had to sit the 11+ exam and were allocated to schools based on the tests. There were grammar schools for the academic and taught a very academic curriculum and those seen as less able attended technical college and secondary modern schools

Problems with 1945 education act
The grammar schools were more allocated to boys than girls. The grammar schools also prepared children for university and high paid jobs filled up with middle class children.

What was the influence of New Right on education
The conservative government objected to comprehensivism.They objected because they thought education should be selective with clever children having a higher education than weaker students.new comprehensives were large consisting of three schools

When were market forces introduced?
1979 - When margaret thatcher took power. Market forces are economic factors. New right believed in competition between schools to compete for students.formula funding - control over money and funded by number of students that they taught.

What are community schools?
owned by local authorities who allocate money and employ staff. most common type of school. these include grammar schools, comprehensive schools and secondary modern schools.

What are foundation schools
Have more freedom because the governing body can select pupils and employ staff. these include comprehensives and grammar schools
