functionalists see that every institution in society performs one or more functions-meaning society runs smoothly, this reflects there beliefs on education and look for positive benefits and functions that education performs.

viewed education as a means of role allocation, sorts people according to their abilities so that the most able gain his qualifications and do the most functionally important jobs (highly rewarded). Davis and Moore saw education as meritocratic.
