What are Neuro Transmitters?
Chemicals that transmit nerve impulses across synapses
1 of 5
Parkinson's is a brain disorder that effects what?
It effects the motor skills as neurones involved in movement are destroyed
2 of 5
What transmitter is lacking in Parkinson's and what symptoms are evident?
There is a lack of dopamine and so tremors and slow movement are symptoms
3 of 5
What treatment is there for Parkinson's and how does it work?
L-Dopa and it has a similar structure to dopamine and is converted into dopamine by the enzyme dopa-carboxylase causing an increase in nerve impulses and increased control of movement
4 of 5
Depression is caused by low levels of serotonin but what drug can be used to help treat this and how?
Antidepressants are used. MDMA increases levels of serotonin by inhibiting reuptake of the neurotransmitter causing impulses to constantly be triggered. MDMA=Mood Elevation
