What is Mitosis?
Mitosis is nuclear division plus cytokinesis, and produces two identical daughter cells in a diploid cell and four in a haploid.
1 of 16
Name the 6 stages of Mitosis?
Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telephase and Cytokinesis.
2 of 16
Define Differentiation?
Differentiation is the process of cells becoming specialised. Most types of animal cells differentiate at an early stage. They become specialised for a particular function and cannot change into different types of cells.
3 of 16
What do specialised cells differentiate from in humans?
Stem cells.
4 of 16
What do specialised cells differentiate from in plants?
Meristem.
5 of 16
What is the spinal cord made up of?
Neuron cells.
6 of 16
What happens in Interphase?
During Interphase, the cell makes extra sub-cellular cell parts(eg.mitochondria). DNA replication is also taken place in the nucleus.
7 of 16
What happens in Prophase?
During Prophase, the nucleus starts to break down and spindle fibres appear.
8 of 16
What happens during Metaphase?
During Metaphase, the chromosomes are lined up on the spindle fibres across the middle of the cell.
9 of 16
What happens during Anaphase?
During Anaphase, the chromosome copies are separated and moved to either end of the cell on the spindle fibres.
10 of 16
What happens during Telophase?
During Telophase, a membrane forms around each set of chromosomes to form a nuclei.
11 of 16
What happens during Cytokinesis?
During Cytokinesis, a cell surface membrane is formed to separate the two cells. Cell walls are formed in plant cell.
12 of 16
What is Asexual Reproduction?
Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction by which offspring arise from a single organism, and inherit the genes of that parent only; it does not involve the fusion of gametes, and almost never changes the number of chromosomes.
13 of 16
What is a Cancer Cell?
A Cancer Cell, is when a cell undergoes cell division uncontrollably.
14 of 16
What is a Tumour?
After a long period of cells dividing uncontrollably, they begin to form large lumps of cells called Tumours. Tumours can damage the body and result in death.
15 of 16
How do Plants grow?
Plants grow by absorbing sunlight during a process called photosynthesis and absorbs water from the Plant's roots.
