What was collectivisation?
The process by which Russian Agriculture was reformed. Stalin planned to merge all the small farms into larger 'collective farms' . These new farms would pool the labour and resources and therefore operate more effectively.

How would they modernise Collectives?
State provided tractors and fertilisers would modernise production.

Why should they collectivise?
It was the Communist Long term aims for agriculture. However, in early 1929, few Communist could have predicted the speed with which this system would be introduced.

What happened in the years 1927, 28, 29 ?(Why collectivise - Economic)
In 1926 Russia saw record harvests but in the following years they were all poor.

What was the effect of the poor harvests (27/8/9)? (Why collectivise - Economic)
Led to a decrease in production forcing the prices of agriculture produce up. Consequently, the standard of living amongst urban workers declined. The decrease in agricultural production also affected the Soviet Government.
