Earth systems

?
What are internal forces of energy for the Earth? What form does this usually take?
Terrestrial. Long-wave infra-red radiation.
1 of 7
What would we catogorise short-wave infra-red energy from the sun as?
External source of energy
2 of 7
How is heat transferred across the Earth?
Outwards into space. Away from the equator towards the poles via atmospheric cells.
3 of 7
What are the 4 main Earth systems and what do these consist of?
Geosphere(Crust, core, mantle, soils); Hydrosphere(ground water, glaciers, lakes, rivers, marine bodies); Biosphere(Plants, animals, microscopic life); Atmosphere + Cliimate
4 of 7
Give an example of how all these systems are interlinked
E.g. Drought-Trees burn-Soil erosion-River becomes silted up-Fish die (or any other reasonable example)
5 of 7
What happened to the sea level as a consequence of the Pinatubo eruption in 1991?
Dropped by 1 cm due to the cooler climate making seawater contract
6 of 7
Why did the Pinatubo eruption cause global temperatures to fall?
Released SO2 into the atmosphere. This combined with water vapour producing sulfate aerosols. This gas reflected solar radiation back out into space.
