Zinoviev and Kamenev now opposed NEP- wanted immediate industrialisation. Bukharin easily demolished their arguments. Stalins position as gerneral secretary allowed him to choose members = votes 559 to 65.

proved they were unpopular= dimished authority in party. Kamenev removed from Sovnakom. 1926- neither re-ellected onto Politburo. Bukharin replaced Zinoviev as Chairman of Comintern and Kamenev as Head of Moscow party.

1925- out of fear he'd become a military dictator he was removed as Head of the Red Army= removed of his single most important powerbase

What effect did the failing NEP system have on Russia between 1926- 1927?
No additional goods to satisfy increasingly wealthly peasants = no incentive to sell grain. 'Kulak grain strike'= food shortages in cities. Gain prices rose.
