Reasons for breakdown (DUCK)
Lack of skills - for some people, relationships are difficult because they lack interpersonal skills to make hem mutually satisfying. Lack of social skills may be poor conversationalists, poor at indicating their like of other people.

Lack of stimulation- leads to boredom or belief that th relationship isnt going anyway (Baxter). People expect relationships to change and develop and when they do not it seems like justification to break it off or begin a new one (affairs)

Maintenance difficulties- relationships become strained when you do not see each other enough, e.g. going to uni and is often responsible for breakdown of relationships. (Shaver)

A major reason why relationships breakdown is that one or both partners have an affair. Boekhout et al suggested affairs may be a reaction to lack of skills/stimulation.
