What is Down's Syndrome?
A chromosomal condition that's present at birth, a child with the condition has three copies of Down's Syndrome 21, instead of the usual 2. The older the mother is when pregnant, the higher the risk of Down's Syndrome.

What are the signs and symptoms of Down's Syndrome?
Stubby hands, low and small ears, small face, slanting eyes, flat back of head, small mouth, protruding tongue, fold on the eyelids.

What are the physical effects of Down's Syndrome?
Increased risk of disease conditions.

What are the psychological effects of Down's Syndrome?
Usually have reduced cognitive abilities but cheerful, affectionate personalities.

How can you treat Down's Syndrome and what practitioners would you use?
No specific treatments for Down's Syndrome except educational support in schools -> learning difficulty assessed by a teacher, the school, parents and a psychologist -> enables resources to be provided.

What tests are available to diagnose Down's Syndrome?
Amniocentisis -> Carried out at 15 weeks, a needle is inserted into the amniotic sac and fluid is drawn out. This fluid is tested for abnormalities.

How does Down's Syndrome progress?
May require educational support at school but can make progress physically and cognitively, life expectancy = 60 years.
