why can the authoritarian personality start?
due to harsh parenting where love of parents was dependant on child's behaviour so child grew up holding these feelings and displacing it onto inferiors (weaker ppl)

he asked the pps to complete a questionnaire called the F-Scale that measured fascist tendencies. the q has statements and the PP had to say how much they agree or disagree with them.

the same ones who scored highly, had disrespect for the weak, were 'strong', status conscious, they had a separate cognitive style, excessive respect to those in powers. concluding that those with the authoritarian personality were more obedient to author
