WWW
WWW stands for World Wide Web and a system of Internet servers that support specially formatted documents. The documents are formatted in a markup language called HTML that supports links to other documents, as well as graphics & audio.

The Internet

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and the activity or business of providing storage space and access for websites.

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider and a company that provides customers with Internet access. Data may be transmitted using several technologies, including dial-up, DSL, cable modem, wireless or dedicated high-speed interconnects.

Search engine
A program that searches for and identifies items in a database that correspond to keywords or characters specified by the user, used especially for finding particular sites on the World Wide Web.

Cache
Cache stores recently used information so that it can be quickly accessed at a later time. Computers incorporate several different types of caching in order to run more efficiently, thereby improving performance.

Cookies are messages that web servers pass to your web browser when you visit Internet sites. Your browser stores each message in a small file, called cookie.txt.

A term, generally synonymous with gateway, for a World Wide Web site that is or proposes to be a major starting site for users when they get connected to the Web or that users tend to visit as an anchor site.
