what is digestion?
it is all about breaking large insoluble molecules of food into smaller soluble ones so they can be absorbed

the canal where the food is broken down to its elements by mechanical and chemical procedures

lubricates and makes it easy to swallow also it contains amylase which is a carbohydrate enzyme

stomach
breaks down proteins with protease enzymes pepsin and trepsin

how long does food stay in the stomach for?

what does the hydrochloric acid in the stomach do?
it kills all bacteria and has a low pH in order for the enzymes to work

what does the liver do?
the liver makes bile which emulsifies (breaks up) fats. It is also alkaline to give the right pH for the enzymes in the small intestine

what is the oesophagus?
it links the mouth to the stomach

breaking down food with teeth

digestion using enzymes
