Dominant Party System -One party has realistic chance of winning power -Could be due to electoral fraud, exploitation of state resources or popularity. -Lib Democratic Party in Japan been in power since 1955

Single Party System - System where one party exists and others banned -Single party dominates with complete control over election -North Korea operates this way - Often exits is political systems where one person rules

Two Party Systems -Only two parties have chance of success at election so power shifts between two -FPTP more likely to result in this

Example of two party systems - Conservatives and Labour won every every general election in recent years -In USA Republicans or Democrats win the election

Multi party systems -More than two parties have chance to win an election or be part of a coaliton. -Govt often a coaliton with different parties -Often result of a proportional voting system

Examples of multi party systems -In Germany coalitons formed to govern country. -In 2018 Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union formed a coaliton agreement with the Social Democratic Party following 2017 national election.
