Father was a scientist and mother was a surgeon who had to give up work

DIBS MOTHER THOUGHT....
that Dibs had brain problems

PROCEDURE
Play therapy for one hour a week. Dibs would be put into a room where he played with any toys he wanted whilst axline took notes and observed what he said.

WAS HIS MOTHER INTERVIEWED?
Yes, later...

WHEN THERAPY STARTED
behaviour was bad at school, Dibs physically fought everything and did not want to go home

THERAPY SHOWS DIBS WAS A
gifted child who was very clever. He was later put into a school were gifted people thrived.

HE TALKED A LOT ABOUT LOCKED DOORS...
'a lock that locks tight with a key and high hard walls, and a door, a locked door!

HE BURIED
a soldier (his dad) in sand and repeatedly hit at it

CONCLUSION
dibs create a balance between his ID and superego and developed mastery of his feelings

Behaviour at school
improved and eventually his relationship with father imrpoved.
