Diabetes Definition
Group of metabollic diseases where a person has differing levels of blood glucose

Type 1 Diabetes
Diagnosed as a child, Isulin Dependant, HYPOglycemic (low blood-glucose levels)

CAUSE of Type 1
Person is uable to produce insulin

SYMPTOMS of Type 1
Excessive thirst, slow healing, frequent urination, blurred vision, become lethargic, weight loss, pale and sweaty skin, irritable, confused, aggressive.

MEDICAL INTERVENTIONS AND COUNCELLING for Type 1
Medical- Regular insulin (injections or pumps), Councelling- Depression management, Education relating to diabetes i.e. what is it, management etc

LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT for Type 1 Diabetes
Diet- eat at regular times and try to keep amount the same, Exercise- uses energy so insulin will need to be topped up afterwards, Drinking(alcohol)- increases sugar levels so they will need to be monitered more closely and insulin maintained

Type 2 Diabetes
Diagnosed in adults (adult onset), could take upto 10 years to diagnose, non-insulin dependant, HYPERglycemic (high blood-glucose level)

CAUSE of Type 2
Person unable to regulate insulin levels

SYMPTOMS of Type 2
Frequent urination, excessive thirst, slow healing, blurred vision, become lethargic, weight loss, abdominal pain, increased hunger, frequent infections, tingling or numbness in hands or feet, breath can smell like pear drops

MEDICAL INTERVENTIONS AND COUNCELLING for Type 2
Medical- Injections of Metaformin, which help to regulate glucose (work with the liver), Councelling- Depression management, Education relating to diabetes i.e. what is it, management etc

LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT for Type 2 Diabetes

School- could lead to bullying, embarrassment etc, Work- may effect a persons ability to get a job as extra work is needed for an employer (i.e. monitering, insurance) and more time off may be needed, Food- needed regularly could affect social plans

(SPIFE, SAME FOR BOTH TYPES) PHYSICAL EFFECTS
Sport- affects ability to participate, get tired easily, unable to participate for long periods of time

Education/Work- sufferers may have to have time off because of their diabetes, younger people may miss important school work and/or exams ect, older people may fall behind with workload and as a result loose promotions/job

(SPIFE, SAME FOR BOTH TYPES) FINANCIAL EFFECTS
Parents/Carers of young type 1 diabetics will probably have to have time off work to look after them and take them to hospital appointments etc, and as a result may lower their income by unpaid leave or loosing their job
