what is the main assumption of the Developmental Approach?
the main assumption of the developmental approach is the cognitive, behavioural and emotional development are ongoing processes throughout a persons life.

case studies. this is because it allows them to see change over a period of time.

a longitudinal case study is a study that is conducted over a long period of time for example several months or years.

the nature-nurture debate relates to whether things such as behaviour are learnt or whether people are born with traits of certain behaviours.

Samuel and Bryant study how children develop the ability to conserve at different ages and how age and questioning style effect cognitive skill.

Bandura studies how children learn aggressive behaviours from models.

Freud studies psychosexual development and how a young boys phobias are related to the Oedipus complex.

the oedipus complex is a conflict between a young boys unconscious desire towards his mother and a fear of his father punishing him for having these desires.

oral stage, anal stage, phallic stage.

psychoanalysis is the assumption that unconscious thoughts are the cause of human behaviours.
