Holophrastic
One-word utterance. 12-18 months

Two-word
Two words combined to create simple syntactical structures, usually S+V or V+O. 18-24 months

Telegraphic
Three or more words joined in increasingly complex and accurate orders, usually S+V+O, S+V+C, S+V+A. 24-36 months

Post-telegraphic
Increasing awareness of grammatical rules and irregularities e.g. instead of saying 'runned' using 'ran'. 36+ months.

Morphological development
as children move from the telegraphic to post-telegraphic they begin to understand that words can be changed to form different meanings. Morphemes can be free (one word that can stand alone e.g. apple), and bound (one that can't stand along e.g. -s)
