Why is Gore-Tex breathable?
Gore-Tex is breathable because it has a layer of hydrophobic PTFE, which is expanded to create a microporous membrane that is too small for rain droplets to penetrate yet big enough to release sweat vapour.
1 of 5
Why are biodegradable polymers being developed?
The disposal methods of landfill, incineration and recycling can waste valuable resources. So to overcome this problem new polymers can have biodegradable chemicals included or they can be water soluble.
2 of 5
What are the properties of nylon?
Nylon is tough, lightweight, flexible and waterproof but it is not breathable.
3 of 5
What differences are there between thermoset and thermosoft polymers?
Thermoset polymers have strong intermolecular forces or cross-links, making them rigid. Thermosoft polymers however have weak intermolecular forces, making them flexible.

What does it mean when something is said to be "non-biodegradable"?
The term non-biodegradable is used when describing a substance that cannot be easily decomposed by bacteria.
