Uses 5 axes model. each axis measures a different aspect in relation to the disorder. Axis 1-3 are compulsory and 4-5 are optional when trying to get a diagnosis

Measures Clinical disorder , such as schizophrenia , depression , bulimia ,sleep disorder

Personality disorders and mental retardation, chronic conditions to go alongside the axis 1 disorder

general medical conditions these are physical problems that are relevant to the condition

used widely and agreed upon, allowing common and universal diagnosis

One weakness of the DSM#?
it serves confirmation that sufferers of these condition are sufferers who need treatment although some suggest it may be a different way of living
