Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (TRANCYPROMINE)
inhibit mitochondrial enzyme MAO: prevents breakdown of Na, 5-HT and dopamine. cheese reaction can be life threatening.
1 of 8
REVERSIBLE inhibitors of monoamine. (MOCLOBEMIDE)
prevent breakdown of monoamines but can detach from enzyme. short acting and sleective for MAOa. TOXICITY: nausia, insomnia, agitation, sexual dysfunction cheese effect.
2 of 8
trycylins (DOXEPINE)
block nueronal reuptake (1) of NA and 5-HT (remain in cleft) Antimuscularinic = dry mouth/ nose. Antihistaminergic= block off H1 receptors causing sedation. Antiandrenergic= block post synapse in periphery, impotence, inc H.R and B.P (hypotension) OD
3 of 8
Serotonin selective re-uptake inhibitors (citalopram)
recent. selective for 5-HT re-uptake.increas 5-HT in cleft.TOXICITY: nausea, diahrrhoea, agitation, sex dysfunc, drowsiness. OD= Serotonin syndrome CNS. hyperhtermia, muscle ridgidity tremor (wet dog shakes) cardiovascular collapse less than 0.0003%
4 of 8
[alpha]2 adrenoreceptyor antagonists (MIANSERIN)
antagonise (compete) presynaptic autoreceptors. Weak 5-HT and noreprinephrine uptake inhibitors. TOXIC: drowsiness, hypotension, cardiac arrythmias, dizziness. Safer in OD
5 of 8
5-HT1a Antagonsists (NEFADOZONE)
Antagonise presynaptic 5-HT autoreceptors. posess SSRI properties. Nefadozone discont. toxicity: sedation, hypotension, cardiac arrythmias, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness. Safer in OD
6 of 8
other: antagonists at [alpha]2, 5-HTta and 5-HT3 receptors
MIRTAZALINE: DRY MOUTH, SEDATION, WEIGHT GAIN
7 of 8
Norepinephrine reuptake inhib
5-HT and norepinephrine reuptake inhib
