What does the term birth rate mean?
Number of live births per 1000 of the population each year

The number of live births per 1000 women of child bearing age per year

The number of births a women is having in the UK is decreasing

What are the reasons for the decline in birth rates?
1. Change in women position - more working less likely to have children 2. Decline in IMR - improved lifestyle + health care = survival rise 3 Children = economical liability - children cost more to have 4. Child centredness - quality over quantity

What effects do the changes in fertility have on families?
Richer and smaller and a bigger dependency on family alone. Ageing population which concludes with a dependency ratio. Also effects public services and policies such as fewer schools or smaller class sizes.

What are the future trends in birth rates?
More births in the UK population will be from mothers outside the UK as of now that stands to 25%
