What is democracy?
Any system of government where the people have access to independant information and are able to influence government decisions. It also implies that government makes itself accountable to the people.

What is legitimacy?
'the right to govern' and 'to make laws' which will be enforced and likely obeyed by the people. A regime may be legitimate because its government is widely recognised, however some regimes have been disputed.

Legitimacy refers to the right of an individual or body to be recognised and to have the right to exercise power. For example this can be conveyed by elections in democratic countries

What is power?
power refers to the ability of an individual/body to force others to do something they might not otherwise do.

The 3 levels of power...
Coercion, which means force, often physical. / Political power, which involves the use of rewards and sanctions, legal authority and persuasion./ influence, being able to affect how others act or think with no force

What is Authority?
it means the 'right to exercise power'. 3 sources: Tradition- because power has been exercised for a long time and has been accepted for many years, election- power may be exercised if an individual or party has been elected,
