Distributary
The channels a river splits into as a delta forms. They help to determine the delta's shape.
1 of 12
Bird's foot
The delata that appears like a brid's foot as the distributaries all have different currents and spread the sediment out at different rates.
2 of 12
Delta Front
The steeply sloping front of the delta that faces the lake or sea.
3 of 12
Flocculation
A process where tiny particles of clay or silt in suspension couglate with salt water to form heavy flocs which sink to the bottom of the bed.
4 of 12
Flocs
A loosely clumped mass of fine particles.
5 of 12
Delta
A depositional feature found in certain circumstances where a river meets a sea or lake.

7 of 12
Avulsion
The separation of material by pulling away.
8 of 12
Suspended Sediment
Solid particles transported in a river's load.
9 of 12
Top set beds

10 of 12
Arcuate
The land around the mouth arches out into the sea and the river splits many times on the way to the sea. This creates a fan effect.
